    Follow our heroine as she (almost literally) goes down the rabbit hole. This movie is what True Detective Season Two should have been like.

    I'm impressed with the way this movie asks and answers its own questions. We never completely understand what is happening. We feel perpetually out of control. It's precisely how Blount's character feels, which is what lifts this film up above standard "drugs are bad, mmm-kay?" fare. 

    The cinematography is tight and brooding. The score is full of dread.

    The whole film is backstory to a third-act rant, a rage fantasy for anyone who's ever bit their tongue around entitled, self-centered parents.

    Space is awe-inspiring and terrifying, beautiful and cruel. Interstellar succeeds at what it aims to be: a thrill ride for nerds. It wants to fill us with wonder at the scale and mystery of the physical universe, and at the same time remind us how the cosmos is as unforgiving as it is miraculous. I'm reminded of this quote from Simone Weil in Waiting for God:

    Growing up we had only a handful of movies on VHS lying around the house. This was one of them. My brother and I watched it more times than we can count. We know every snappy line, every slapstick beat. 

    Madeline Kahn is unforgettable as "the" Eunice Burns. 

    The car chase would have been the end of the film in other hands, but then comes the courtroom scene, one of my favorites in the film. Every character in the film…
