ON THIS DAY: 26 MAY 1940

The evacuation of Allied forces from the beaches of Dunkirk began 80 years ago today as part of Operation Dynamo during WWII.

THIS is why I miss going to the movie theater! Wow, the noise this film made was an assault on my ears, the huge screen encompassing my entire view was breathtaking. My own screen just does not do this kind of film justice, but I'll retain my original rating. The deliverance scene…

Benh Zeitlin, this movie hurt me a bit this evening. Especially now in these difficult times, seeing these kids not wanting to grow up and having adventures on that magnificent island felt slightly ... It's nice to be reminded of that free-spirited nature. I sometimes wish my youth was as rebellious and adventurous as this was, and that I had more friends to share it with. Now that all seems to be over, graduating university this year ain't no fun…

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Not sure why I never picked this film out to watch before today, but I did now... and it's definitely amazingly absurd.

If anything, Portrait de la jeune fille en feu is WARM. 🔥

Now excuse me for that easy pun because this film deserves much better from a review. Yes, this is a love story; but it's so much more than that. These two woman, and the servant Sophie, base their relations on equality. Any form of hierarchy almost vanishes when only they are on screen. There's a certain tenderness that captivates the audience.

Never since playing Commodus has Joaquin Phoenix been so menacing, such a good villain. He delivers a performance for the ages in Joker, one that you should absolutely come and see. The man basically overshadows the entire project. What I found most astonishing is how you can see Arthur feel in pain and sad when he's laughing because of his condition.
