Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood

Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood ★★★★★

I can’t decide if this is my favorite Tarantino film to come out this decade or since Kill Bill, or maybe even since Jackie Brown. The setting and subject matter evokes a dream vision of 1960’s Hollywood, a time and place that fascinates me to no end. Some people who are used to a more straight-forward story structure filled with schlocky cartoon action segments might not find it as captivating as Django or Inglorious Basterds but it hits all the right notes for me. This piece of work feels more personal and has more emotion than Tarantino has shown in a long time.

Quentin manages to take what he has delved full throttle into this past decade and dials it back to a more refined and calm mannered tale of drug fueled debauchery.
