Noah Baumbach's new film is easily the strongest since his excellent THE SQUID AND THE WHALE, and a wonderful showcase for Greta Gerwig. It's a really good de-glamorization of the Manic Pixie Dream Girl character, it's beautifully photographed in atmospheric B&W, it's got a good soundtrack (David Bowie's "Modern Love" is used particularly well), and it's funny.
It's not for everyone; you pretty much have to adore Greta Gerwig even when she's playing a character who is a total whacko half the time, but at least it's not in an annoyingly precious way, and the editing is intentionally jagged and off-the-cuff. But I enjoyed it a whole lot in general.
