What a complete and utter miscalculation. Like, pretty much every way you could possibly imagine screwing up such a promising restart in the nearly-excellent 2018 film. I went into this totally prepared to love it and be telling all the haters how wrong they are. I did not expect to be saying that it nearly rivals Part 5 for being the worst in the entire franchise (and the only one I actively dislike).
Two stars for sentimental value and a few minutes here and there that are effective. Maybe I’ll watch it again in a few years and it’ll click and I’ll love it (like Rob Zombie’s Halloween II, which I despised the first time and now revere as one of the best in the series). But for now I’m just angry and let down.
Edit: I watched this again a couple weeks later and now I love it! 🤷♂️
