it's great that they finally did the right thing and made an animated movie instead of trying to cgi the turtles into the real world, and the grimy speedpaint art style was the perfect choice for this
i also loved the use of light, with neon glow everywhere and good use of contrast
the soundtrack too! one thing in particular i liked about that was how the action scene in the mechanic garage sounded like it was inspired by car…

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

changing the story from the book was a terrible idea
the film essentially just presents as true the backhanded narrative of a particularly snakelike breed of fundie who will say 'oh, it's not that we hate you, we still love you, it's just your *choices* that are wrong', and then breaking up a gay couple literally stops the actual apocalypse
and it keeps tensions up but that's still pretty much the whole story

    i don't think they intended that quite…

for a romcom, it lacks both romance and comedy, and manages to be neither endearing nor funny
there are definitely a couple of emotional scenes towards the end, but the saddest part of the film is definitely just that writer-director joachim trier, a man in his late 40s, casually admits to us through his protagonist that he doesn't think his partners usually ever enjoy giving him oral sex or getting him hard
the protagonist herself is a very dull woman…

it's tragic, but certainly not hard to watch, and it's comic, but certainly not vapid
sometimes it's sad and funny at the same time, and sometimes it's just sad or just funny, but the script always balances this perfectly as it digs into the contradictions of our social lives, as well as our absurd struggle for meaning against the smallness of existence

martin mcdonagh's best film by far as well as one of the best of 2022
