I can’t tell if ScarJo’s acting has gotten better or worse.

McCabe & Mrs. Miller 1971
Western Wednesday #27
This was a snoozefest and kinda gross overall, until the final 30 minutes which gave us an action-packed and suspense-filled finale. Although this is lauded for challenging Western conventions, there were lots of things, like McCabe & Miller’s never developing romance (all the sudden they were a thing), that made me surprised at how acclaimed it is. I also found there were no characters to latch onto since everyone with lines was a villain and none were that…

Lightyear 2022
I think everyone expected this to be the worst Toy Story movie, and it is, by a mile, but that doesn’t make it a bad movie. Pixar seems doomed to suffer by comparison with each new movie it releases, so adding anthologies like Lightyear will probably continue to disappoint fans, despite being highly regarded had it come out under a different banner.
Chris Evans’ voice acting is surprisingly good, but there’s really not much else here that got me excited for the newest addition to the studio’s filmography.

The House 2022
If all three segments had come together in the final act, I might have liked it better. Still better than most of the animated cannon fodder 2022 has churned out.

When I started this movie I did not imagine it having the coolest car chase ever put to cinema, but here we are.

The Graduate 1967
Well, I finished grad school yesterday. Time to celebrate with a fitting movie.
What a strange movie it is though. Dustin Hoffman acts like he’s never interacted with another person in his life. There are random horror elements throw in throughout. A father pimps out his daughter multiple times. The film turns into a music video multiple times also.
I’ll choose to believe the acclaim relates to the post-graduation nihilism and not…anything else this film offers.

Duck, You Sucker 1971
Western Wednesday #25
I’ve been thinking I don’t like the Western War sub-genre, and this film confirmed it. I’ve repeatedly rated those the lowest of this Western challenge so far.
The 160m runtime took me three tries to get through, which I attribute to the 25% of the movie which consisted of super close-ups. Not Leone’s best imo. idk 🤷♂️

The Man From Toronto 2022
There were a distinct lack of Canadianisms until we got to the Man From Vancouver unfortunately. They really shoulda played up that angle
