"Stand up and hurt. And know that there are some bad dudes that have your back."
This film is powerful.
Absolutely gorgeous. This is a story of one of the great musical artists of the 20th century. But the title is so apropos... What happened, Miss Simone? What is an inspiring story of a Civil Rights warrior takes a turn toward tragedy, and then back toward... something. Redemption, maybe?. A tautly told story, with interviews by everyone there. Highly recommended.
Hoffman is amazing here. In one of the finest performances of his career, he plays a man that we can never really nail down. He's powerful one minute, then he seems so small the next. This film takes the mundane aspects of national security and makes them meaningful. Also, it's got the single most suspenseful signature in any film ever.
