"Only when you feel pain, can you know the shape of your heart."
Director Miike brings us a slow burning film presented in two halves. The first half being a lovely romance tale of a widower finding love and the second half being a horrific visceral explosion bringing to light the realities of relationships. The story hints at women's role in Japanese culture and I think it does a good job of turning that on its head with the plot twist. A terrifying watch that makes me want to be single for life. You can just turn to your boyfriend and whisper," Kiri, Kiri, Kiri."
