I knew going in to this that Soldado was not going to be another Sicario. The genius of Villeneuve can't be replicated but I was ready to give it a chance.
Honestly, Soldado delivered in every way I thought it wouldn't. There was no deep emotional themes or masterful writing like the first film, but this was so shockingly entertaining.
Sheridan can really write dark scripts well. I honestly applaud him for writing a sequel that is actually worthy of the Sicario name despite a new director being attached.
Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro are brilliant, just like the last time, and make Soldado one of my biggest surprises of the year.
