The voice over left me cold and there were some odd directorial choices. This could so easily have been five stars. Despite this the story is so enthralling that it ensures it’s a must watch.
I knew nothing about Frida Kahlo and so found this movie fascinating - but it left me wanting to learn more about her. Reading around it seems that as enjoyable as the movie was it only captured certain elements of Frida’s life. Nevertheless some captivating performances and beautifully imagined scenes.
This movie is about the importance of freedom of the press in a democracy, specifically the publishing of leaked classified documents which reveal how a succession of US presidents have lied to the American people about the decision making surrounding the Vietnam war. This was fascinating to me - it’s an area of recent history that I know little about - and would have made for a fascinating documentary, but was much less convincing as a movie.
