    The Eagle Huntress

Captivating. What an incredible story and the young girl’s smile is worthy of five stars alone! Such an incredible insight into a totally alien way of life.  The voice over left me cold and there were some odd directorial choices. This could so easily have been five stars. Despite this the story is so enthralling that it ensures it’s a must watch.

  • Frida

I knew nothing about Frida Kahlo and so found this movie fascinating  - but it left me wanting to learn more about her. Reading around it seems that as enjoyable as the movie was it only captured certain elements of Frida’s life. The focus was determinedly on her romantic relationships  - and mainly her heterosexual encounters. A missed opportunity to explore the life of a fascinating woman. Nevertheless some captivating performances and beautifully imagined scenes.

I don’t think I can do this movie justice in a few words. Superb acting performances which convey both the tragic and comedic aspects of the story. Very funny, laugh out loud moments from a great script. The well thought out use of the fantastic soundtrack brought to mind classic Western gun fights and later, gave way to an operatic feel. Very violent and graphic language but don’t let this put you off. A story that slowly reveals the different shades of grey in every character. Compelling.
