Some very fun fight choreography and some neat little referential moments. I really wanted "the song" to make a grand appearance, but that's my own nostalgia baggage.
If aliens accidentally got sent this movie, they would never ever be able to understand it or parse how it connects to the information they've already gathered about us. It would set back their research hundreds of years and throw everything they thought they knew about us into question. That is to say, I celebrate this strange film beamed to us from another dimension.
NOTE: This film should not be "rated" out of five stars because it exists between the folds of perceivable reality. I believe this is both a one star and five star film simultaneously.
I finished this movie with a smile on my face. It revived elements of the goofy optimistic comedy aesthetic of the late nineties and early two thousands. In fact, it's uncomplicated tone stood out so much from the current omnipresent meta-cynicical comedy trend that it almost felt rebellious. It's also worth noting that the production elements of the film were top notch. Everything felt specific and well-realized-- I didn't notice any cut corners (another rarity for modern comedies).
