    This really is my favorite Disney movie, pretty sure.

    I thought maybe it was just because it was “in the vault” for most of my childhood, so it was therefore mythical, unobtainable, the legend of its greatness growing in my young mind each year that I couldn't actually watch it.

    But it really is that great - the colors, the humor, the lush musical score, the nonstop rush of action in the final minutes- the ultimate Disney fairy tale retelling.

    The narrative/visual juxtapositions in this and some of Greenaway’s other short films mirror my internal monologue like no other art I have ever encountered. It is validating but it also scares the hell out of me.

    Watched for the Film School Drop Outs 2018 Challenge, which I am still working my way though in 2020, and because I saw Greenaway's films were going off the Criterion Channel in a couple of days.

    The baby Jesus was super cute, sitting up, waving and clapping hands as the magi come. I'm not sure I've ever seen a nativity scene where the baby has an actual baby personality.
