Loved this movie, with one complaint: it really was a missed opportunity to not get an actual jazz or jazz-adjacent musician to do *all* of the soundtrack. The Reznor and Ross pieces were nice and quite serviceable, but when I imagine what Flying Lotus, Kamasi Washington, or someone/anyone in jazz might have done I start to get a little angry about it. I'm therefore taking off 1/2 star from this otherwise perfect movie for the failure to fully commit to jazz.

Thundercat. Definitely should have been Thundercat.

This really is my favorite Disney movie, pretty sure.

I thought maybe it was just because it was “in the vault” for most of my childhood, so it was therefore mythical, unobtainable, the legend of its greatness growing in my young mind each year that I couldn't actually watch it.

But it really is that great - the colors, the humor, the lush musical score, the nonstop rush of action in the final minutes- the ultimate Disney fairy tale retelling.

Despite its failure to keep my interest, it is no doubt important…

The baby Jesus was super cute, sitting up, waving and clapping hands as the magi come. I'm not sure I've ever seen a nativity scene where the baby has an actual baby personality. The sudden appearance/disappearance of angels playing music for the sleeping baby made me laugh. The early ambition of the rest of the movie is…
