BlacKkKlansman ★★★

it was extremely chilling to be sitting in the theatre on the year anniversary of charlottesville.

a lot of people are split over the ending, but i feel it was extremely necessary. a lot of racists who don’t consider themselves racist will see this film. they’ll laugh at the racist redneck antics. they’ll nod their head in solidarity with corey hawkins’ incredible speech. they don’t see themselves in any of the characters.

the last 5 minutes are jolting and uncomfortable because it forces you to confront just how far racial equality has progressed in the 40 years since ron stallworth fought to expose the klan (spoiler alert: it's not very much).

rest in power heather hayer, and to the countless other individuals who died as a direct result of the same racism and bigotry.
