This is still such a fantastic film. Carpenter has always been one of my favorite directors, and this is one of his most iconic films. I think what I enjoy the most about this film are the creature effects -- there's still nothing quite like it, and sure, they don't look realistic, but they have such character. Cool ending too.

Felt like it was finally time to kick off a marathon of films from 1982, and I started with this, because I was in the mood for a good ol' cheesy 80s horror, and boy, did this not disappoint. As I remembered, the most ridiculous aspects of the film are the over-the-top use of cheap "3D" effects, which is kinda endearing. Other than that, it's classic Friday, and of course the debut of the Jason's iconic mask. Good fun.

This was a really great film to take in on an IMAX screen, and so I'm glad I ventured out to the theatre for it. There's just no way a film like this would get made in the MCU, and that's the reason I like that the DC film exists, whether good or bad. They at least tend to offer something different, and you do feel that the directors (and cinematographers, etc.) leave a larger imprint on the finished films,…

I found out about this film via the British film magazines I read (Empire, Total Film, SFX), and I'm glad I checked it out. I'd never heard the term "video nasty" (referring to the ultra violent and gory horror films that were being produced in the UK in the 80s), and it was interesting to see that and the government censorship efforts used as a setting for this film. I quite enjoyed it, including where it ends up, which I think might not be for everyone. Well worth watching if you're into the horror genre.
