    Reason, Debate and a Story

I can't in any good conscience give this a rating, since the copy I saw had the worst subtitles I've ever seen (Onscreen at one point: "Unuverses is burning"). I'll have to see this again if the US ever gets a decent DVD release, since there's some great cinematography, and I was able to glean some interesting themes concerning finding a home or place of safety in a country in turmoil. The subtitles honestly made this a wasted viewing.

    Need for Speed

Shocked at how much I liked this. Great practical stunts, an outstanding score, and a likable, charismatic lead in Aaron Paul.

    Vampire's Kiss

I....I can't make heads or tails of this movie. I don't know what it wanted to be, I don't know if it succeeded at said wants, and I'm still not even positive this actually exists on our plane of existence, despite watching it yesterday.

    Con Air

Great piece of 90s action, hurt only by an unfortunate gay stereotype that even Michael Bay would find mean spirited

  • Dallas Buyers Club

    Dallas Buyers Club

There are some great performances here, but they're hurt by the "Hollywoodized" aspects and some moments that would feel at home in Walk Hard

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

★★★★½ A near masterpiece. Can't wait to see the 190 min cut on the Criterion

There are some movies whose problems I take delight in. This is not one of them.

  • Blue Is the Warmest Color

    Blue Is the Warmest Color

OK, so I'm the guy that doesn't love Blue is the Warmest Color, and it's more my fault than the movie's fault (though it is the movie's fault that it's not as good as the comic). I just don't want this story as a realist drama. It's weird to want something more conventional, but....that. It's still a very good movie, just not one that I'm crazy for.

One of my favorite animated films of all time. Better with every viewing.
