🎬 Jedi Darko 🎬’s review published on Letterboxd:
Affleck you da bomb in Dawn Of Justice yo. Sorry just had to do that. 'Batman V Superman' is no Christopher Nolan, but seriously, who expects it to be?! It is what it is, a COMIC BOOK movie. Plenty of flaws, as noted in various reviews and rightly so in some cases, I won't really go into all of them as they've been noted alot and no point in being repetitive. But I think Snyder tried his best to please comic book fans.
Taking my seat I had very low expectations due to the reviews and being directed by a hit/miss director, Zack Snyder, but personally I really liked it, a step up from Man Of Steel I think, don't understand why critics are being SO harsh, but worth it just for that 'Sad Affleck' video, f**kin' hilarious. Being Snyder, aside from a couple of CGI shots, the movie looks great visually. Personally I love comic book/graphic novel movies dark and violent, and I'm happy DOJ sways more in that direction.
One of the biggest faults of this movie was Snyder stuffing too much in, too much and you could make it a turkey, but regardless I found it entertaining. Obviously DC are trying to catch up with Marvel by rushing in the Justice League, with little nods to Aquaman, Cyborg, The Flash and of course Wonder Woman it was nice to get a glimpse of what's to come all the same. As the first two thirds of the movie move along at a moderate to slow pace the narrative gets slightly messy, in the final third it's one action set piece after another, set pieces I found less annoying/head wrecking than MOS I must say.
Affleck IS Batman, thought he done a great job, dark and tortured, look forward to a solo movie. Glad he pulled it off, and that he doesn't have a silly Bale Batvoice. Cavill for me is a poor, one dimensional actor but he suits the Superman part. I'm a big Eisenberg fan but thought his casting was questionable at first, but despite some of the hate, I actually thought his Lex Luther portrayal was pretty good, despite some slight overacting in places. Gal Gadot for all her 7 minutes screen time is awesome, loved her, actually looking forward to the Wonder Woman movie a lot more now, hope they pull it off.
Overall, I love Batman, my favourite comic book character, and I'm glad it's not a total major disappointment, not brilliant but not bad, I enjoyed Dawn Of Justice despite obvious flaws, just ignore all the reviews and judge for youself, form your own opinion.
Since its Easter, there are numerous EASTER EGGS in 'Dawn Of Justice' here are a few;
1) The Mark Of Zoro is the movie playing in the opening scenes, the same as that in Frank Millers 'The Dark Knight Returns'.
2) Supermans pal and famous photographer Jimmy Olsen is present, he is the CIA operative accompanying Loais in the desert at the beginning of the movie, Snyder has stated he will have more scenes in the extended cut.
3) Darkseid, the evil ruler of the planet Apokolips, is referenced in Batmans desert dream sequence. The omega sign in the sand is a common symbol used by Darkseid, and the soaring fire pits bursting from the Earth are a perfect match to those at home on his native planet.
4) The building interior of the Batman/Superman fight scene has graffiti on the walls, some of which is a question mark in the style of The Riddler.
5) A little Star Wars reference, Lex Luthors prisoner number ends in TK-421 which is the same callsign of the stormtrooper who has his uniform stolen by Luke and Han in 'A New Hope'.
*SPOILERS*
6) During his 'dream sequence' there is a rupture in space and time which bursts into the Batcave, an armored man reaches out, the character in question is none other than Barry Allen, i.e. The Flash (Ezra Miller) sporting a heavy duty armor suit, he tells Bruce Wayne to "find us", in other words the Meta Humans, who will in time form 'The Justice League'.
