Joachim Jelle’s review published on Letterboxd:
Listen as I scream out my frustrations because can you really be a movie lover if you don’t love John Carpenter? Okay, The Thing is one of my favorite movies, and Halloween remains a stylistic thrill-ride with one of the best scores ever. Prince of Darkness is Carpenter’s Fulci zombie movie, and In the Mouth of Madness might be the best Lovecraft adaptation that isn’t a Lovecraft adaptation.
But looking back, have I really enjoyed any of his other movies? Memoirs of an Invisible Man is vastly underrated, but that seems like a flaw on my side. Vampires is probably the movie of his that dips the lowest after the opening twenty minutes. And then there are his action movies that I simply can’t seem to find pleasure in, and with a movie such as Escape, which I should love, I just sat on my couch surprisingly untouched, and to be honest, somewhat bored.
