Jennifer Couttas’s review published on Letterboxd:
#3 of 20 films at TIFF.
There is so much to unpack in Parasite, a tale of the haves and the have nots. I was very disappointed to miss it at the Sydney Film Festival, and grateful to see it at TIFF. The theatre was packed to the gills, and although I had a general admission ticket, I lined up an hour and a half prior to ensure I got a decent seat.
Don’t ask anyone about the plot, just go and see it. Bong Joon-Ho is one of the few directors around making thoroughly original, edge of your seat, films.
At the end I just had to sit with it and let it marinate on me. There’s so much social commentary, humour, horror, dread, grotesqueness, so much visual mastery. You could talk about it for days, or just let it wash over you.
