It's nearly impossible to graduate from a Dutch highschool without having read Het Gouden Ei, the book the film is based on. It's less than a hundred pages, and thus favored by many Dutch highschoolers who would rather use their time to get frikandelbroodjes and energiedrankjes, also known as the famous bruggerlunch combo.

Whereas the original was a collective catharsis after nuclear destruction, this film felt like the catharsis after 2011's Fukushima Daiichi disaster. The most scientific approach to a kaiju film with topics being discussed such as isotopes, fallout and fission. One sequence was sure to make me feel goosebumps again all throughout.
