It ★★★½

Largely jettisons the social context of the King novel in favor of turning the story into the pretext for a fast-paced, Spielbergian thrill ride. It shouldn't really work, yet the cast of child actors offers a level of commitment that is infectious. A clumsy effort that prizes maximalism at its own expense, yet better on those terms than most of the recent Wan/Blumhouse efforts.
