Live Flesh ★★★

Typical Almodovar (hysterics, sexual obsession, unlikeable protagonists), but its lurching plotting doesn’t leave much room for depth. The best moments are probably throwaway gags (e.g. a gunshot echoed on a television, a confrontation interrupted by soccer goal), whereas the melodrama feels rote, as pastiche often does, I suppose. Maybe best thought of in terms of parody…
