Manchester by the Sea ★★★

Second viewing doesn't change much, insofar as I still find this dryly academic in its schematic tonal shifts. Affleck's self-hating character still leaves me sitting outside of the film emotionally. Nonetheless, I found new things to appreciate about Lonergan's writing and direction this time (visual rhymes, the way he repeatedly breaks the 180-degree rule in the scene where we learn of Joe's death, some surprising editorial jumps, etc...).
