Spoor ★★½

This might have felt less clumsy and undercooked had I not also watched Top of the Lake this week. Holland’s blunt approach is politically sound, using the abuse of animals to address generalized power imbalances, yet is too fanciful to mesh well with the standard potboiler tropes of the book that she’s adapting. What results is a mess, entertaining in spurts, but bereft of narrative logic or momentum.
