The Curse of the Werewolf ★★★½

I’d meant to revisit this for years... since seeing Garrone’s Tale of Tales, in fact, due to its similarly freewheeling medieval fairy tale vibe. What time had made me forget was that this devolves in its second half into a less interesting beast, filling its screen time with Oliver Reed’s hand-wringing over whether or not he might be a man eater. Even on these terms it’s well done for what it is, but it’s the wildly unpredictable opening scenes that truly stir the imagination.
