I've always preferred this film to Batman Returns, for many reasons. Firstly, I like that the tone is clear from the outset. This is meant to be an entertaining superhero film that, despite having moments of family melodrama, doesn't take itself too seriously. Apart from a bit too much neon, this is a good looking film that manages to juggle multiple characters successfully. Robin’s backstory is handled well, as is the birth of the Riddler. Jim Carrey steals the show so it's easy to see why crabface Tommy Lee Jones felt threatened. Val Kilmer (who proved a nightmare for the director) manages to do a decent job as Bruce Wayne but doesn't really sell it as Batman. There's some good chemistry with Nicole Kidman's Chase Meridian and the film has a great soundtrack. A disposable and over the top film but still great fun.
