It's probably the best I could have hoped for this pretty generic superhero story. Kid gets powers from freak accident. Uses his powers in ways that come back to bite him in the ass. Realizes he doesn't want the powers and wants his life to go back to normal. Bad guy finds out the kids identity, confrontation, hero saves the day. That is every superhero movie origin story. This one is no different. The lead is okay, Massie Williams is fine. It's not terrible, it's not great, it is watchable yet forgettable.
The only special skill Liam Neeson has in this picture is being awesome. This great, thrilling detective piece is intense from beginning to end. I wasn't sure how I felt initially about the young sidekick but I ended up loving young Detective Daunte Culpepper. Great flick all around.
I had no real idea what I was getting into when I started this flick but I was completely engrossed. Great performances, neat ideas, and good direction really compels this movie forward. My only nit-pick would be I felt like I was a step ahead of the "reveals", I feel like the directors held our hands a bit or maybe I've seen enough time travel movies that it would take a lot to surprise me. Regardless I really enjoyed this flick a lot.
