J E S S 🌈 V. K’s review published on Letterboxd:
I love teen movies.
I love them because they are a capsule of the times with very specific tropes and style that literally no longer make coherent sense.
The 'stoner' kid, the shamed 'slut', the 'good' girl, the 'philosophical' weirdo. These characters all come racing back after tremendous effort to dig them back up to my consciousness.
As the years go by, less and less sense can be made but that is what makes them so special. They only make sense when it is viewed historically. This is a historic film that needs to be treasured as such, needs to be continually studied in film history to allow new viewers to understand this strange Liv Tyler era.
I love teen movies, I hate teen movies, but I love how they are a capsule to remind us of our history.
