I feel out of sync with my fellow horror fans because I just am not enjoying this series. I like the soundtrack and set design, I like Sadie Sink and Gillian Jacobs, and I like the idea. But none of the kids talk like it's the late 70s (or the mid-90s in the first movie) and there are no grounding cultural references. None of the old 70s camp slasher tropes were explored, the old filmmaking styles and lenses and angles were not used.
It all just feels really shallow and "Oh people love Stranger Things so make it retro, okay". And THEN factor in that the action takes an hour to get going and the evil forces seem to have no rules and, sorry, it's just a big soggy mishmash for me.
