Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom ★★★

Oof. I haven't watched this since I was a kid, and I don't know how to feel about it now. On the one hand, ToD hits a perfect balance of humor and action, with a sincerity that's hard to find nowadays. It's well-made, and a ton of fun. On the other hand, at my advanced age, Indy seems like more of an asshole than I remember, tellin' dames to shush and savin' the brown folks.

"You just can't make movies like this anymore," I said during the breathless first 10 minutes, and by the closing credits I remembered why. Still great, but definitely an artifact of its time.
