There is nothing I love more in cinema than a compassionate look at humanity. It's why I love Ozu and why Kiarostami is my favourite director, why I respect Sion Sono in his reversal of that effect. All of these directors equate humanity with cinema and understand that these two wonders are of the same cloth-- therefore, this film by Japanese director Kore-Eda is the perfect example of what cinema means to me.

Easily the greatest film about doing everything you can to avoid school ever.

What can be considered a memory? how long is a memory before it becomes a second memory? And how valuable can one truly be?

A deeply personal ambiguous and introspective masterpiece from the most human director.

Hmm Kore-eda using animation is interesting but this is an emotional short featuring Rikako Ikee who I now hear is returning to her best but at 23 years old, 21 when this film was made has to deal with living with leukemia which she was diagnosed with at the tender age of 19.

I won't leave a rating on this piece however Kore-eda didn't try any film tricks and instead just let her tell her story in the most respectful and uplifting way, in her way.

The obessed artist as told from an outsiders perspective and the isolation that comes with being left behind.
