Every time I watch this movie I think about what an unbelievably underrated director Ted Kotcheff is. On this viewing - at least the 20th time I've seen it - I noticed for the first time that Bruce Greenwood is one of the National Guardsmen!
Crazy movie business fact: in 1971, this movie grossed more than THE FRENCH CONNECTION and DIRTY HARRY combined. The only 1971 release that made more money in the U.S.? BILLY JACK. All that aside, a pretty amazing movie that has aged really well.
