James Haves’s review published on Letterboxd:
My friend has been pestering me for so long to see this. The other day, I was in a DVD shop with a £20 voucher and there it was, just sitting there on the shelf for the cost of just £1. Naturally, I bought it, along with V For Vendetta, Drag Me To Hell, Escape From New York, The Butterfly Effect, Crash, The Shawshank Redemption, and Chocolat.
BEST £1 I HAVE EVER SPENT.
Daniel Day-Lewis is god in acting form. He delivers something which is more than a performance. It is so good it deserves more. This is not a performance, it is a reality. For the time of filming Daniel Day-Lewis became Daniel Plainview. We are watching Daniel Plainview. Helping him along is Plainview himself, who is one of the most layered characters in all of fiction.
If I say anymore, I have a fear I will stop you finding out for yourself. So if you have a love for great fiction, you owe it to yourself to see this film as soon as possible.
