As lesbian high-school violent comedies go, this is way up there.

Beautifully made. The central character, Jesmark, does not need to say much to convey how he feels about his work as a fisherman, and how it connects with his identity and family history. When this is threatened, it's devastating. With irl fishermen notably among the cast (including Jesmark himself), this is an impressive directorial debut from Alex Camilleri. It also paints a compelling picture of Malta today and the tensions between traditions and heritage, on the one hand, and capitalistic 'progress' on the other.

It was the "absence of agony" that got me.

My number one favourite documentary. As soon as you've wrapped your head around what it's showing you, it unlocks another level.

Some find it depressing. I don't. But in all those neverending drunken nights, I see a relatable yearning.
