Josh Keown | Night Terror Novels 🧛🏻♂️’s review published on Letterboxd:
"This isn't about the monkey's Ellen. Something crazy is infecting this whole zoo."
- Rex (Marcus Anderson)
I'm going to have to whittle this review down to just quickfire good points and bad points as I could literally write an essay on this true masterpiece of horror; nay, of cinema.
THE GOOD POINTS (LOTS)
+ The opening is incredible, it was so like an actual wildlife sanctuary I thought for a moment I was watching a documentary.
+ Also in the opening, I really felt the doctor's fear when she saw the first zombie monkey and went; "Whoa", and then she said it again; "Whoa", and then under my breath I said, "Whoa".
+ The acting is outstanding; I truly believed these were professional animal handlers and doctors. The writing was revelatory as well, it really opened my eyes to what a screenplay can be.
+ I thought it was really cool how every character did what they wanted and didn't listen to dumb orders or protocols and also they are all really brave and never look scared even when people are being ripped apart.
+ The effects are absolutely jaw-dropping and I am not ashamed to admit that at some points I was really scared because they were so realistic.
+ But also there was practical effects with the gorilla which looked so realistic I almost couldn't tell it was someone dressed up.
+ Overall, it is very scary, but also really dramatic, action-packed and very, very emotional. I won't spoil the ending, but I haven't cried so much since the ending of King Kong.
THE BAD POINT
- I take issue with the tagline 'IT'S JURASSIC WORLD OF THE DEAD' plastered on Zoombies poster. No it isn't. They're aren't any dinosaurs, not even one. If there had been, my rating could have been a whole 1/2 star higher! Imagine that! A WHOLE 1/2 star!
VERDICT; I mean it Asylum. I can see it right now. Together we could make true zombie kino to surpass that hack Romero.
2oombies: Zombosauraus Rex. Call me XOXO
1/5 or 2/10
(by the way if my rating looks low it is because I broke the button trying to rate it 6/5 or 11/10)
