Jordan McNaught’s review published on Letterboxd:
The Way Back takes your classic underdog story and updates it for modern cinema. for the first two thirds of the film i was thoroughly enjoying myself but it's not until that last act hits when the character moments sprinkled throughout are tied together and you're left melancholic, angry and ultimately satisfied. even beyond the character writing the cliche clutch moments in the basketball games even had me physically fist pumping in the air. all of it is ultimately drawn together by Ben Affleck's great performance and some really good direction that gave certain scenes a real energy and climax.
now this is a basketball movie, of course it's riddled with cliches and has a really overused structure. but honestly just because of the raw look into it's main character and the fun that was had along the way, i can't help but really like this movie.
