Pig ★★★½

Clearly based off John Wick, and owes more to it than just a starting point. The underground restaurant world is similar to Wick’s assassin society, and like the Wick series that world building is more distracting than not. Its real strength is its open, simple-hearted sincerity. The shadow of violence hovers over every scene, yet the warfare is usually fraught words poking at barely submerged grief. Cage is allowed to keep his performance internal, reminding us what a talent we neglect in favor of the memes. He’s a walking wound in this, private yet tender in a way that makes you feel vulnerable as well. Good performances by David Knell and the always welcome Adam Arkin.
