The Big Sandwich’s review published on Letterboxd:
Uh great gowns, beautiful gowns.
Feels like all the complaining about this not explaining how we get the Cruella in 101 Dalmatians is kinda bad faith?? This just very clearly is a different story with its own bunch of nonsense to explain poorly?? Except for the emotional gist of each scene which is helpfully explained by the lyrics of a recognisable song released in the UK or US from 1964-1978 (though this movie's primary audience is kids and who am I to begrudge them being introduced to Time of the Season or whatever).
Anyway, fun spectacle!! Occasionally pretty good laughs, PWH and Emma Stone both charming, gets the worst of the Disney visual and dialogue airlessness out of the way in the first forty-five minutes. All the crowbarring in of IP maintenance name recognition junk sucks (it's fine for fictional characters to just have arch names!) but could've lived with this version of Joker.
