Josh’s review published on Letterboxd:
Chen Daoming, Gong Li, and Zhang Huiwen are devastating as a family struggling to cope with wounds caused by the Cultural Revolution, but are impossible to heal. Chen and Gong do an amazing job playing characters who love each other very much, but cannot truly connect because of Gong's character's memory loss.
Having said that, Chen's character could have been more complex and fleshed out. As it is, the character's defining trait is that he loves his wife and daughter a lot, even though they things that make it hard.
