  The surface level social/political commentary might be off-putting to some viewers who expected a more profound work, the obvious comparison being Taxi Driver.

  Roma 2018

  Although I enjoyed Green Book (review), I find it infuriating that it won ‚Best Picture‘ over Roma. Roma is the much more complex and mature film. A lot of thought went behind the implementation of its two recurring main themes (life/death and love/hatred). The cinematography stands out due to the black and white look but more importantly due to its ingenious composition, often featuring the two counterparts of one of the main themes mentioned above in a single frame.
  Alfonso Cuaróns (director, writer, producer, DOP, editor) very personal film is one that he can be really proud of.

  Having read the book this was disappointing. Perhaps it‘s my fault for having expectations but the movie barely showed the characters relationships at all. It was hard to care about them beyond the sake of caring because they‘re in war.
  The film relied too much on the shock factor.
  Still, very impressive from a technical standpoint, especially considering it‘s a German production.

  Wish it took itself a little bit more seriously, the performances and jokes are a bit over the top. Still a fun watch and murder mystery, although the script is not quite as tight and redeeming as Knive‘s Out.

  Everything I could ask for from a Sci-Fi action movie. Films with time-twisting elements are not easy to pull off but in Edge of Tomorrow, the writers and the director executed it really well.
  Great performances by the lead duo, Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.
