Joel Mayward’s review published on Letterboxd :
She walks up the stairs to the church, feeble and unsteady, her age and illness wearing on her. Then something profoundly Pentecostal happens: Miss Sharon Jones--recovering from surgery to remove pancreatic cancer, enduring chemotherapy, her band financially struggling without gigs--belts out a hymn with such spiritual fervor and strength, it's like watching a miracle unfold on screen. "I sing because I'm happy" she belts out, "and I sing because I'm free...I know He watches over me." She dances, a convulsing rhythm of wonder and strength. The woman who could barely make it up the church steps is quivering with passion, energized by both the music and the Spirit, and I am in awe.
I do miss Sharon Jones.
