Letterboxd — Your life in film

I regret so many things in life but not revisiting this movie for 20+ years has to be near the top of the list. A masterpiece!

The consequences of Master and Commander never getting even one (1) sequel have been so damaging to mankind.

Never wanted this to end, even when it got painful. The speech about having nothing but the objects you've collected is gonna haunt me for weeks. Norwegian Dakota Johnson could destroy my life if she wanted to and I'd say thank you do it again. Fuck! What a film. My favorite of the year.

Has all of the necessary ingredients for being one of my all-time favorites:

- grounded/elevated sci-fi
- great cast, who all just happen to be at the peak of their hotness
- gorgeous, emotionally manipulative score
- deep and overwhelming undercurrent of sadness/melancholy

I just think it's neat! Five stars.

And you can count on me to tear up when Mark Ruffalo asks Laura Linney, "remember when we were kids? remember what we used to say to each other?"

Sally Hawkins muttering "don't want to be going there" after seeing a book called "The Road to Reality" is one of my favorite jokes ever.
