A Scanner Darkly 2006
Might be the worst stylistic choice I've seen in a movie. Not only are the visuals vomit inducing but the rotoscoping destroys even the broadest aspects of performance. Everything about this film feels lazy and not thought through. Even the jokes are completely manufactured: Robert Downey Jr is basically a car mechanic but doesn't know how gears on a bike work?!? But the biggest offense is, that it's not even funny, or dramatically impactful, or anything, really, besides being disgusting.

And Then We Danced 2019
Hyper conventional script meets hyper conservative filmmaking. Formulaic to the point where you are just waiting for certain plot points to happen, which makes the movie feel twice as long. It's sad that a film this undaring is lauded only because of its "exotic" setting and the homosexuality of the protagonist.

Faces 1968
The energy in this film is crazy, but I really enjoyed its high pace insanity and its sort of "awkward" editing. Great performances and Cassavetes' tonal control is on point. Sure, the countless back to back reaction shots of people laughing maniacally might feel irritating and, like I said, awkward, but it's exactly that dissonance that makes it work. Basically it's jazz. The camera, being aggressive and super dynamic, plays into these tonal shifts as it comes to a halt every now and then on a superbly composed frame. The very last shot could just as well be a Hopper painting.
