this movie is not my taste. it’s filled with gleeful digital fx’ed hyperviolence and has a solemn lana del rey style cover of “hit me with your best shot” during a moment with emotional weight. it’s solidly rooted in the dc universe of mr. J and strange morals and bizarre narratives. but most importantly, it’s really, really good.
i spent the first half underestimating it and apprehensive and the back half of it fully having a blast. it’s like edgar wright directing a john wick! it’s energetic and cogent! it’s incredibly casted and directed! it’s ewan mcgregor baby! at the end, we hear a character say “i’m sorry i underestimated you, harley.” it’s okay, she’s used to it!
