  • The Pleasure of Being Robbed

    The Pleasure of Being Robbed

    ★★★

it definitely feels like a first film, but it mostly works in its favor. there’s a rawness and fierce sense of independent artistry here that you just don’t really get with higher-budget work. Josh Safdie is also adorable in it.

For the curious, the distractions of life, the heart broken, & anyone who’s had the pleasure of being robbed.

  • Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol

    Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol

silly and messy, but goddamn, that Burj Khalifa sequence is the peak of the franchise and has to be in the running for best stunt sequence in action cinema.

“American kids did die, and they’re still dying. Just not the ones you care about, apparently.”

competent. engages in important and overlooked modern history and gets the point across. but it feels undercooked and stale. and good lord I hate Jeremy Renner.

    The Dark Knight Rises

    ★★★

Oh, you think darkness is your ally. But you merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t see the light until I was already a man. By then it was nothing to me but BLINDING.”
