Joe Bandy’s review published on Letterboxd:
Nora Ephron has the uncanny ability to make movies that give you the feeling of being serenaded. There’s so much patience, so many beautiful compositions, and always two lovable characters drifting towards each other in an unhurried manner. So much emotion but so little anger, so much humor but nothing self deprecating or mean, just softly tugs at your heart strings for its entire runtime before wrapping you in a big hug for the finale.
There’s not much space in our current filmmaking climate for stuff like this. The few remotely similar romantic films lack the craft, care, or earnestness that Ephron brings to her work that create such a wonderful tone and experience. It takes a considerable amount of restraint for me not to jump into the comments of all the reviews giving this mid tier ratings. Heartless bastards, all of ya!
