Chantal Akerman is a revelation for me. Her films give me the peace of mind that I don't find in my rushed day-to-day life.
The framing is magical in Jeanne Dielman; time is given to become accustomed to the rooms and, with that, an unbelievable feeling of depth of field uncovers before your eyes. Another dimension works as great a wonder, the dimension of sound. Overall, quietness rules in Jeanne Dielman, which creates a hypersensible environment for sounds. Then, all of a sudden, the radio switches on; Beethoven. Have you ever listened to Beethoven? I have, tens or hundreds of times, but never like this. I felt the sound waves entering my body and altering my genetical code. There is no other way to put it. Magic.
