The satire of this movie hits so much harder 22 years later. But keeping in mind what the late-90s were like, it makes sense that so many dudes took it purely at face value and made Fight Club some kind of soft manifesto. I do wonder how much of the style and slickness here is commentary about the presentation of consumerism, and how much is just Fincherian gloss on the material.
