The internal push/pull between me coming around on Taylor and thinking she comes across as a generally good and thoughtful person who doesn't deserve my kneejerk scorn and me also trying not to get taken in my the slick confidence scheme that is the modern pop-star documentary was a real work-out!

It's hard to tell what irked me more: that mangled title or the fact that Lara Jean, Peter, all their friends, and (once again) Lara Jean's meddlesome little sister. Justice for John Ambrose. Gimmie a movie abut Holland Taylor's days as a Pan Am stewardess.

[second viewing 12/26] I noticed the structure of the adaptation even more this time around. The way it coils most tightly around Beth at the center - DEVASTATING. Maybe the best film of the year, give or take a “Parasite.” Nominate it for Picture, director, screenplay, Ronan, Pugh, Chalamet, Cooper, Costumes, editing, production design, hair/makeup. Just 11 nominations, that’s all! Maybe cinematography too.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Highest recommendation to see this movie before you know ANYTHING about it. Which makes it incredibly hard to review, actually. Bong Joon-ho's instincts for class struggle crisis points are so incredibly sharp here, but nothing, be it theme or aesthetic, steps in front of the storytelling here, as this grifter family plots to scam its way into wealth-adjacency. Brick by brick, this house gets assembled and then thrillingly, shockingly, horribly gets leveled. It's funny, pointed, and exhilarating, a daring cross-pollination where "Shoplifters" meets "Gosford Park" meets "Us." Easily one of the best of the year.
