So when Robin Williams is getting transformed in Mrs. Doubtfire and he says β€œI’m ready for my closeup Mr. DeMille.” he’s referencing this movie. Neat.

This movie necessitates the addition of "Asteresque" to the dictionary. HEAVILY inspired by Hereditary. I think Riley Keough gives a career best performance, she starts as just a very nice person but the descent into madness that occurs leaves you shocked and feeling sorry for her and the acting is all in her face.

Watched the extended edition and wow. I’m pretty sure Luc Besson lives in the shadow of this film because pretty much everything else he’s done is mediocre. Natalie Portman showcases some of the best child acting of all time, it makes sense she went on to become a star after this. Gary Oldman is insane when he puts everything into roles like this. While on the surface it’s controversial, the dynamics of the main relationship are threaded with absolute care and perfectly portrayed with nuance. The naΓ―vetΓ© of a 12 year old girl with all its uncomfortable details. Excellent film
